product good, price bad, shipping bad:
The product I purchased was exactly what it was supposed to be. The price I paid Amazon, however, was a 200% markup from what they paid the company that sent it to me. I understand making a profit, but this is ridiculous. Shipping also took much longer than the website advertised. The 3-5 working days promised turned into an actual 15 calendar days, meaning the item arrived long after I needed it. Book, good. Amazon, not good.
Marzano's Nine:
Classroom Instruction That Works by Robert Marzano et al is a really good resource for teachers - old and new. I only wish that there were more examples of specificly how to use these strategies. Great but borrow it:
This book was amazing but could have all been summarized by a table in the first chapter stating the most effective strategies and their effect sizes. This information is needed by every teacher, but as the whole book can be summarized in one table, you may want to borrow it. Marzano lacks understanding of statistics:
In the first chapter of Marzano's book he talks about the statistical methods he used to support his beliefs. At the end of that chapter he mentions that he has acknowledged "all the limitations of this book." He neglects to mention any of the more well known problems with his approach. Perhaps his understanding of the limitations would have been better if he had looked at the Wikipedia page on meta-analysis.
